Atomic Array Listener Survey

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

I sent out an informal survey to some of our Atomic Array listeners. I’m still pondering what all the responses mean, but here’s the results so far:

(1) How did you hear about Atomic Array?

47%: Host mentioned it on message boards or in IRC
24%: Promotions
12%: RPG Podcasts.com
6%: Google Search for “RPG Podcasts”
6%: Heard promo on another podcast
6%: iTunes Search

(2) What was your first episode?

40%: Episode 001 (Colonial Gothic)
13%: Episode 005 (Interface-Zero)
10%: Episode 010 (Shadows of Cthulhu)
37%: Various Others

(3) How often do you listen to the show?

13%: Once, never again
73%: Every show

(4) How do you listen to the show?

50%: Website
43%: iTunes
7%: RSS

Episode 011 (Pathfinder) is by far our favorite among our regular audience.

I also learned that some people love the rants and the CthuLou segments from Episodes 010 (Shadows of Cthulhu and CthulhuTech), but these also have a number of people that don’t care for them. The picks, on the other hand, aren’t as popular – but we didn’t receive any negative feedback on them, either.

Radio Rivendell

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Radio Rivendell is a non-commercial, non-profiting web radio station that plays fantasy music 24×7. The station has been online since 2001, growing out of a Shoutcast experiment.

Blah blah blah, right? Well, I think it’s a cool little site. I won’t bore you with all the reasons why I like the idea of a 24×7 stream of fantasy music. If you’re into the genre, you already get it. Here are a couple other things I like about Rivendell:

Interviews: Everyone can do interviews, but the Council has integrated then into the site in a slick way, giving each group their own mini-page on the site. On the mini-pages, you can see a complete list of albums, and even a list of all the composer’s songs.

Just Played: I’m loving this page, where you can see what has recently played on Rivendell. Each song/album/artist is linked to internal pages.

Anyway, check the channel out.

WordPress Plug-Ins for Podcasters

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

I’ve decided to try my hand at creating a site for an upcoming podcast, instead of having someone else do it. I’ve never do it before, though, so I’m a little… OK, I’m petrified. There is so much I don’t know.

I think I’ve found the theme I will be customizing: WP Premium.

The big question right now is this: What plug-ins do I need to know about, if I want to do this podcast right, from the start?

Blighted Tome Show

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Tome Show host, Jeff Griener, and I had a chance to chat about Blight Elves: Architects of Despair and Book of Bones: Blighted Bestiary, recently. Joining us was the editor, Rone Barton. It was a great time.

Tome Show #60: Blight Elves Interview

If you let the audio ride for a bit, after the closing credits, there’s a little easter egg. Like I said, we had a good time…

Sophia to Frankfurt

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

The difference between security at and US airport, and any western European one for that matter, and that at Sophia International is stark. I was barely spoken to, didn’t have to remove my laptop from the case, and I’m convinced the detector wasn’t even on. You may think I’m exaggerating, but realize that when I arrived in Bulgaria two months ago, I didn’t have to go through customs before exiting the terminal.

While waiting for my flight, I listened to the latest Canonpuncture show. The programming is getting more sophisticated and I enjoyed that. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to here the promo my company recently cut for Sinister Adventures. If you want to hear it, head for the break between the first two segments – but then go back and listen to the whole episode. You won’t be sorry.

Audience Tracking With Feedburner

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Feedburner allows you to see how many listeners you have for your podcast. Check out the stats for some of the shows I listen to:

  Writing for Pay

  Bear’s Grove

  The Digital Front

  Dragons Landing

  The Game Master Show

  The Gamer Traveler

  The Game That May Be

If you’re a podcaster, and you use feedburner, do you have this tool turned on? If so, please let me know so I can monitor your audience stats. I’m trying to get a handle on how large the podcast market is… at least for the demographic I’m in.

Sinister Adventures

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

My good friend, Nicolas Logue (), opened the doors of his new publishing company yesterday. Sinister Adventures has some great content and products coming out, from some of the biggest names in gaming. I can’t wait to hold the first Dark Vista in my grubby paws!

Make sure you listen to Dark Whispers, the official podcast of Sinister Adventures.

KLA

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Rone and I gave an interview with Sam Chupp of The Bear’s Grove podcast last night. The rest of my family was in Smochevo, so I camped out in the Blagoevgrad office. It was a good time, my first interview ever.

Come 0630 GMT, my father- and brother-in-law dropped by to take me to coffee. We went to a decent cafe in the center of Blagoevgrad, where we met a handful of acquaintances. It turns out that one of them is the #2 guy in the KLA. What was he doing in Bulgaria? Scaring up capital for a construction project – a hotel in Prishtina. From guerrilla to real estate mogul…
