Pathfinder #8: Plague and Pestilence

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

At GenCon last year, Rick Miller () sold James Jacobs () an article on diseases. It wasn’t a hard sell – the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path just so happens to include some diseased elements.

The best thing to come out of this article is the look and feel of the plague doctors – modeled shamelessly after the outfits worn by the doctors who served during the days of the Black Death. Those wacky “bird” masks just screamed Pazuzu to me.

Please let me know what you think about the article. Better yet, if you like it, please post your props on the Paizo Boards. Do both!

Get Diseased

Friday, February 15th, 2008

and I penned an article on diseases for Pathfinder #8, due out in March. It’s a fun article, my only regret is that we couldn’t do more.

Some of the art has been rolling in. Click on the image to the right, for instance, and you’ll see the plague ship art. It’s a beautiful piece.

If you download the Curse of the Crimson Throne Player’s Guide, you can see another of our creations on page 12. The Doctor’s Mask was modeled after the outfits worn by 14th century plague doctors.

I hope you enjoy the article. Feel free to leave me feedback once you read it.

The Skinsaw Murders

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

As soon as Paizo announced Pathfinder, I was excited. The chance to be a part of a new setting, build through adventures, from the ground up? Yes, please!

Fellow WereCabbage, Richard Pett, wrote the second chapter in the Rise of the Runeloards Adventure Path: The Skinsaw Murders. I’m downloading it right now, and can’t wait to see what nifty things he put in there.

A sudden string of brutal killings terrorizes Sandpoint, and the killer’s mark bears a disturbing similarity to the strange rune the goblins in the previous adventure had taken as their tribal totem. Investigation leads the heroes to confront a sinister murderer who has claimed a notorious haunted mansion as his lair. Yet this murderer is one of many, a member of a group of killers who call themselves the Skinsaw Men and have adopted an ancient magic involving the seven deadly sins. The PCs must travel to the bustling city of Magnimar to unravel the truth behind the rune, but in so doing may become prime suspects in the killings themselves!
