Baklunish Linguistics

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

I’ve been working for some time on developing the linguistics of Greyhawk’s languages. It all started with the GH Dictionary project. After I’d gathered up as many “sample terms” as I could, I wanted to do more. I wanted authors, DMs and players to have a mechanism whereby they could create words, names and phrases for these languages and keep them sounding distinct and consistent.

At the same time, I had started looking into the lore surrounding the Baklunish people, trying to gather “what we know” about this culture before the Invoked Devastation. At some point, a few months back, I noticed there were very few sample terms for Ancient Baklunish. Coupled with my “baklore” obsession, I decided Ancient Baklunish would be my first linguistic target.

I’m happy to announce that I’m 95% done with the basics one would need to create Baklunish words. I’ve still got some kinks to iron out, but I plan to start creating a sample lexicon once I finish this journal entry. Sooo exciting!
