My grandmother died yesterday.

How can I describe my grandmother to you? I remember her doing the charleston en route to put in some laundry. I remember her singing Oh, Christmas Tree to as we decorated for the holidays. I remember so many events, like scenes in a movie – but, these don’t describe my grandmother as a person.

She was the most dignified, gentle and content person I have ever known. A simple woman, her life was focused on her family and her relationship with God. In fact, one reason I have trouble describing her to people is that, when I think about her, I think about what a Christian should be. Her life was a testimony to how beautiful the world would be if each of us “loved our neighbor as ourself.”

I love you Grammie. The world is a worse place without you.
